Live Performance Friday at Shalom Neuman 's Art Show

Rivington School's Shalom Neuman returns to NYC for a solo exhibit at Van Der Plas Gallery, and we're giving a performance for the opening!
Friday September 15 5:30 PM - Van Der Plas Gallery, NYC!

From Rebecca Migdal:

The Third Reich of Dreams: Burning Down the Night (featuring Doll Hospital, Shalom Neuman and Ladi Kolsky)

In Nazi Germany a Jewish journalist, Charlotte Beradt, secretly recorded the dreams of guilt, fear, ambivalence, denial and resistance recounted to her by acquaintances suffering under the fascist totalitarian state. The dreams were later published in the book The Third Reich of Dreams.

The potent and disturbing dream images Beradt collected serve as the textual component of The Third Reich of Dreams: Burning Down the Night, a sound experience weaving together spoken word, spontaneous vocals and music. With guttural catharsis, the work channels an apotheosis of evil, accompanying and culminating in the ultimate act of desecration, the burning of books, performed by Shalom Neuman. This performance functions as a symbolic, apotropaic redemption, defying censorship and hate through the re-appropriation of the destructive act into the chthonic realm of alchemical renewal.

Doll Hospital is an experimental noise/art/poetry experience featuring Andy Laties, Rebecca Migdal, Eric Blitz and Jenny Gonzalez-Blitz. The ensemble will be joined by guitarist Ladi Kolsky.
Doll Hospital have appeared at Otto’s Shrunken Head and The Pyramid Club, among other venues.

Urchestra Bandcamp

I've been behind in updating my art blog, but that doesn't mean stuff isn't always going on Earlier this month the Urchestra Bandcamp launched featuring the recording done at the Clubhouse up in Woodstock this previous August . Sadly, within days of the site launch, Karl Berger passed. Karl and his wife Ingrid Sertso are/were both luminaries in the jazz and avant garde world and an incredible piece of the Ur Sonate recording and  additions to the list of musicians who have performed with Urchestra.

CHARAS Mural in E.V. Grieve

This article is from a few weeks ago, but there was also a story on the mural creation in
Since then there's been a lot of progress on it! I added color to my bomba art, and here are some contributions from Sabrina Jones and Eileen Doster

CHARAS Murals and Protest Art News

It's good to see the murals attracting attention to the situation with CHARAS/El Bohio. People stop to ask us about the situation or compliment what we're doing each time we're out there. It seems clear they'd rather see CHARAS revived for the community than another fishtank glass high-rise or clusterfuck of bars there.
Here's an article from The Village Sun:
And this is a report from NY1 Noticias with several shots of the mural as well as an amazing miniature recreation of the CHARAS building by Tom Manco.

Updates part 1- Fighting for Charas

January has been a busy month, starting on New Year 's Day! I didn't do anything for New Year 's Eve, partly due to Eric being laid up again with a hip pointer injury, and partly due to avoiding NYE like it was Disnified Times Square.
But anyway, I 've been involved with the fight to save CHARAS and turn it back into a community center to benefit the people, possibly actual low-income housing/permanent housing for homeless people is something I'd like to see also. Sort of a combo like they did with the abandoned school up here, P.S. 109.
So last fall a mural was created on the 10th Street side of CHARAS and after some people were all "What 9th St don't get know love?" We began a mural for the 9th street side.
