Lady Rides The Subway

I've been fighting with a sore throat & cold all weekend. That and the 7 line being weird are keeping me home from a party where there's bound to be hookahs. Sigh...
Santa Muerte image in my journal:
Abuelita is addicted to "Caso Cerrado" (a Spanish-language version of "Judge Judy" that sometimes has a higher weirdness factor) and the other day a girl was on with a Santa Muerte statue like this. The throne she was seated on had the Heru Udjat (Eye of Horus) as one of the designs on it, but as La Huesuda is already a syncretization of Mictecacihuatl and more European images of Death brought over by the Spaniards, I guess a little more syncreticism can't hurt. Especially if it's a symbol that sacred.

Astral Knife - "Guilty Of Everything"

Another Astral Knife track. I particularly like this one because it evokes nightmares I had when I was small, and even though nightmares frightened me, they would also fascinate me and I would think about them for days after. Eric named this track because he likes the writing of Herbert Huncke.

Want To Get Rid Of Strange Sickness?

Today I made a cut-up, a la Brion Gysin, out of a flyer I found on the subway for some sort of psychic faith-healer or something. I think I put it to far better use than calling some stranger who will attempt to hustle me out of hundreds of dollars to remove some "curse" she's determined I have.

"Want to stop nature
God disease may harm you.
If you really want something done about the mysteries of the Deep control,
You're bound to be suffering from illness as many others do far and near.
Thousands of people who have been crossed bring the spirit of release in a hurry.
Your every affair and dealing reveals solutions to all of the hidden secrets, evil eyes, and lurking dangers.
Want to get rid of Strange Sickness?
Have spells, utter a word.
Surefire Will can do it for you.
Be happy at night."

Gysin apparently believed these things would enable him to see into the future. I'm not sure about that, since belief in predestination is at odds with my beliefs in Will and also Multiple Universe Theory. But I do believe it's possible doing this could tap into both the personal and collective unconscious.

Why do I keep getting stuff posted when I'm just too tired to write anything of interest?

In Due Fairness...

since writing such a descriptive slag on Henry Rollins' ablist suicide column, I should follow up by linking to his statement of apology. I can respect someone who can admit they made a mistake, and not have it sound like canned PR damage control.

Meanwhile for the evening's listening we have on Deathpile's "Final Confessions" album. It simultaneously induces unease and inspiration. It's so damn good it made our cat jizz on my nightgown when I picked him up, which is doubly weird since it was Enzo, the cat we think is gay.

In other news, happy to see the media moniker "ISIS" for the Islamic State beginning to be refuted, whether by letters to the media by the Fellowship of Isis, the point that "ISIL" may be more accurate, or that "Daaesh" originates from there Syrian detractors and apparently they kinda hate it. Which makes me lean towards that one.
Now if only we could get to the bottom of who's really funding these guys. And get them to stop slaughtering everyone they may ideologically disagree with, for instance the Yezedi, who's mythos I'm also partial to...

Expanding the Blitz Blogging Empire...

...seems strange, since I'd rather destroy empires than build them, as it may be the only way to maintain inner sovereignity.

I'm building a blog archive for my artwork, which currently only has four things on it. I'll continue to post them here with commentary, but to just view work, there's:

http://jgbvisualart.blogspot.com/

Also, here's a blog for my husband, percussionist and sound artist Eric Blitz. Yes, we're in Astral Knife together, but over his life Eric has played in bands from Kommunity FK to False Prophets to Missing Foundation to Future Blondes, and that's not even a full list. You can follow what he's doing here:

Back on Wordpress I was doing a lot of mental health "mad pride" type blogging, in addition to sharing art and music. I suppose I should add my voice to the chorus of people saying that Henry Rollins' recent column on suicide makes him a stupid stupid fuck. I'm being generous in calling it a "column" - it's more of an embarrassingly flagrant public display of ignorance and ablism exposed to the world in the same way a subway flasher will pull out his vein-and-venereal ridden cock for the viewing of any female commuter making her way home on the 5 A.M. "A" train. But where I've always had the tendency to point and laugh at the latter, I can't help but feel disappointed to hear such trite, insensitive cliches of misinformation coming from the person who previously penned such former lifelines as "Rise Above" or "I Know You". Depression is a rough tour of duty. Suicides are it's fallen soldiers.

In the course of reading about this controversy, I also learned that Gene Simmons had made some mocking comments about depression and suicide a few weeks earlier. Between his right-leaning politic and my personal opinion that KISS was always sort of boring, I'm less likely to be aware of or impacted by what Gene Simmons says. But I know people who are. So the same "Fuck you, ablist" goes out to him.

End mental health stigma.

"Ra-Hoor-Khuit Has Taken His Seat In The East"

Some lovely statues of Horus/Mentu (though I'm familiar more with that type of headdress on Asar/Osiris, I'll have to ask my Egyptologist friend about it.)looking out on the city... respectively in "God" and "Dragon" posture. Hopefully they're keeping their sun and moon eyes fixed on that police car across the street.

And while I'm on a Kemetic geek-out, can we quit calling the Islamic State fundamentalists "ISIS"? I  know they're not named for the Greek version of Aset, but it makes my eyes slimy every time I read it. Kind of like with these neo-fascists in Greece currently calling themselves "Golden Dawn". Just...no.

UPDATE: Another friend of mine - not the Egyptologist - has pointed out that in Arabic the Islamic State group call themseves "Daaesh".  No more Queen of Heaven sullying.

Astral Disaster (AK HNW live @ Otto's Shrunken Head)

So when I talked about that chaotic gig where I was basically in the throes of a psychotic break the whole time? Eric sent it to some other noize artists, and with a little positive feedback ("positive" - ha ha ha ha ha) I grew the brass ovaries to put the track up. It is a charming little harsh noize wall...

Also, there's an Astral Knife page on Facebook:

Iodine Octopus In The BloodSea of Binah

Now here's a bit of a change of pace...I did not deliberately open a vein to spatter blood all over the Smash Journal page and turn it into sea creatures. It happened accidentally with some sewing scissors, and I decided not to let it go to creative waste. And as the title suggests, the octopus was done with iodine.

Last night we attended a lovely wedding ceremony. Today we put in a few hours of rehearsal. It's been a great, Dionysian, frenetic week but I'm pretty wiped out.

Living In La La Land 5/29/11 - Rat Show

For those who don't already know, "Living In La La Land" is a journal strip I more or less pencil every day, but is about three years behind in inking and posting, which actually works in my favor, damage control wise. I also do it in zine format and it appears in the New York Waste, but you can read the entire run thus far at Webcomics Nation.

1:15 Minutes

...of Future Blondes Wednesday night/Thursday morning at Nothing Changes.

Last night's Astral Knife performance was overtaken by chaos, and not of the sort we were masters of. Not that Chaos has ever given a blanket promised to anybody of any such thing. It's just not how Chaos rolls, any more than the sound system at Otto's rolls with cooperating with one's cables and gear when you need it to. And to be honest, never fully has, I can recall that all the way back from my Mz. Pakman days. That unpredictability is just part of the place's charm, you know?
I remember smiling unflinchingly as a headband-clad former Mars Bar employee swung nunchucks inches from my face, but melting away into a screaming psychotic episode when Clown Kong began popping balloons. Which I suppose for art's sake only enhanced the dada-esque madness ensuing, but from the standpoint of my schizoaffective diagnosed well-being is probably not a Good Thing.

Astral Knife @ Otto's Shrunken Head Tomorrow Night (8/14/14)

Sort of last minute, but we're doing a set tomorrow night as part of another one of Johnny Bizarre's live Gong Show revivals.

Now Eric will be coming hot off the heels of tonight's Future Blondes gig, so expect surprises. As always. And for this go-round it will be held at Otto's Shrunken Head (538 E. 14th St.) rather than the poetically named Old Man Hustle, which means I won't be swinging chains and setting dollar bills on fire in a space the size of a walk-in closet. I'll be doing it(or whatever I do) in a punk and garage rock tiki bar.

Me and Eric experimenting with some oscillaters & other gear we haven’t tried before. A perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to VauxFlores & Audible Disease for creating some unique one of a kind noisemakers!

Also, messing around with an ANS synth app:

Hello Blogspot

Well then. It appears Wordpress has re-done their site in a chaotic jumble of dead or misdirected links, so here I am setting up camp on blogspot. I have friends who use both platforms. Maybe it's best for me to spend some time here.

Anyway, tomorrow night Eric will be playing with Future Blondes at Nothing Changes, 131 Chrystie St.
